How long are the hikes?

Most  hikes are usually 2-8 miles in length. After meeting at the trailhead, we'll generally begin hiking by 10am. We usually maintain about a 3 mph hiking average with breaks for lunch and snacks or viewing any interesting geology, flora or fauna. We'll generally be done between 2-3 hours after start time. Hiking plans, including the estimated distance, will be announced via our mail list each month.

Do I need to be in good shape to hike?

If you jog or walk during the week you should be able to handle our hikes with no problem. If you're sedentary most of the week, expect to be tired and maybe sore by the end of the day or on the following day. Many of our regular hikers were worn out the first time they hiked with us, but after several hike found their level of fitness had greatly increased.Drinking plenty of water and eating during the hike will help to keep your energy up and prevent soreness. If you're unsure of your fitness, you can join us on one of our occasional shorter hikes.

Where do we meet?

We will announce the trailhead we'll start from and if you're familiar with the area you can meet us there. Directions will be given during the electronic mailings along with a trail map.

What should I bring?

Please see our What to Pack page.

Will you still hike if it's raining/snowing/etc?

Yes, we'll still hike even if it's raining, snowing, sleeting, or sunny. If you're properly attired, then you can still have an enjoyable hike. The only time we've cancelled a hike was due to a forecast of Lightening.

Can I bring my dog?
Dog

Dogs are allowed on our hikes provided they are well behaved and under control. Some of the locations we hike at require dogs to be leashed.

What about poison ivy?
Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy is found in the woods we frequent. If you're allergic, consider wearing long pants and/or using a product like Ivy Block. Learn to identify poison ivy, please ask other hikers to point it out for you. Avoiding the plant is the best way to remain itch free.

Does the group ever backpack?

While some of our regular hikers do backpack, the group functions mostly as a hiking club. You may find backpacking partners by coming on our hikes, and occasionally someone will plan a trip and announce it via our mail list.A few times a year we'll plan weekend trips that require car camping. For example, we may leave Friday after work and drive to our location, camp that night and hike the next day.
